Literacy lift off is a whole class intervention aimed at increasing each child’s competency in oral language, reading and writing.
The Board of management of Carrig N.S. invested a large amount of money in providing a wide range of reading material to implement this programme. The programme is spearheaded by Perry Maloney our deputy principal and resource teacher.
It is a six week programme which will be implemented initially in senior Infants. There are 4 elements in the lesson which involves station teaching. It includes
- Familiar reading
- Word work
- Writing
- New book
We hope that this programme will lead to an increase in literacy levels in the school. The children are actively involved and it will be an enjoyable experience for them which will increase their confidence in literacy and enable them to access other areas of the curriculum.
