What a busy couple of weeks we had during the Winter term of Junior Infants…here’s just a small snap shot of what we got up to during that time!
Our Literacy Stations are continuing each morning, and the improvements we are seeing in the children’s reading, writing and phonics/blending are incredible. Maith sibh!
We performed our Christmas Play, “Ralph the Reindeer” for our families in the Halla back in December. We did a superb job! All of our hard work paid off and everybody was very proud of us! We completed lots of beautiful Christmas/Winter Art to decorate our classroom and the corridor, and also learned some Christmas Poems including “Chubby Little Snowman”, “5 Little Christmas Trees” and “Reindeer Poop”! We also made some beautiful Christmas decorations to hang on our fabulous Christmas tree.
Gaeilge topics this term included ‘Bia’, ‘Caitheamh Aimsire’, ‘An Nollaig’ agus ‘An Aimsir’, while Maths allowed us to complete a Maths Trail (during Maths Week), and to learn about Patterns, 2-D Shapes and to complete lots of work around Number.
Aistear gave us an opportunity to visit ‘The Doctor’s Surgery’ and ‘The Arctic’. We linked ‘The Arctic’ with SESE by exploring the topic of Winter, and focused on areas like ‘The Penguin’, ‘The Polar Bear’, ‘The Igloo’ and ‘The Inuit People’. Juniors had lots of fun completing experiments during Science Week (back in November) also – we made it rain, saw raisins dancing, made a colourful rainbow from skittles and made our very own snow in the classroom!

A visit to the Church in December gave us the chance to view the Advent Wreath and admire the Crib. Catholic Schools Week in January reminded us, how important grandparents are in our lives, and we wrote a special prayer for them to celebrate our love for them on Grandparent’s Day.
We also celebrated Mrs. O’ Halloran’s first anniversary Mass on January 6th. Though it’s hard to believe it’s a whole year since this special lady left us, we hope she is now at peace up in Heaven.
