1st Class Adventures

we welcomed our new 1st class back to school in September and they quickly settled in!

In the past few weeks we’ve learnt so much, gone on lots of adventures and we’ve had such fun! Here’s what we’ve been up to…

In September we explored the themes of “Myself” and “My family” in SPHE and gaeilge and we learnt about how we and our families are all so unique and different . We have lots of talents and ideas to share and we all fit together as a class.

We celebrated “Walk to school week” by making a big effort to walk, scoot or cycle to school and we designed shoes! We learnt lots about green schools and saving fuel in SESE. We took part in a survey about how we travelled to school carried out by the Green schools committee. We also got a new bike and scooter parking shelter in our school!

We enjoyed exploring shape in maths. We went on a shape hunt around the school grounds and we found lots of cirles, squares, triangles, rectangles and semi circles! We made shape pictures with chalk in Art. We’re learning addition tables this year.

We learned lots of Gaelic football skills this term with our coach Neil and we had some great matches every Monday. We also stretched and relaxed in yoga every Friday with Siobhán.

October arrived bringing lots of changes in weather and with the leaves changing into the beautiful autumn colours we brought our learning outside and went for a nature walk down to the village. We had such fun finding lots of things in nature and ticking them off on our bingo sheets!

We created Autumn creatures and Autumn trees with brown paper bags and paint.

We planted daffodil bulbs in our tunnel and we look forward to watching them grow in Spring! We have a great bunch of gardeners in 1st class!

As Halloween approached the school was transformed into a spooktacular world of witches, ghosts, pumpkins and scary creatures! We printed pumpkins with apples, we created bonfires while learning about the importance of fire safety in SPHE. We made scary fabric ghosts and we carved huge pumpkins that we picked from our school garden! We planted these from seeds last year in Seniors!

Last Friday we dressed up in our Halloween costumes and had a little party!

Well done for working so hard this term children. Happy Halloween!!🎃
