Active Schools Week!

We had a super time celebrating Active Schools Week 2022 the week before school finished up for the holidays. It was fantastic to see the whole school getting active everyday – well done to all pupils and staff for their participation! ☺️👏🏼

Thursday: Conor Bowe came to visit 4th, 5th and 6th class. Pupils engaged in a challenging striking competition – well done to our winner Lauren! 🥳

Friday: While 5th and 6th enjoyed some sailing in Dromineer, 3rd class set up some brilliant obstacle courses and took over as teachers, showing Junior and Senior Infants how to complete them using different skills learned in PE this year. The classes had great fun! ☺️

Monday: Monday was a busy day for Active Schools. Our U13 camogie team, along with supporters from 5th and 6th, travelled to Semple Stadium to play their final. They were runners up on the day and the whole school flocked outside to line the footpaths as the bus arrived back to school to show our pride for our wonderful girls – maith sibh! ☺️ 3rd class also took an active approach to maths completing a maths trail around the school grounds, church grounds and Ballycommon village. Taekwondo & Boxercise instructor Philomena Ryan also visited all classes to teach us some skills – the children were fantastic and really enjoyed her sessions 😄🥋🏑

Tuesday: Our favourite day of the year finally arrived – Sports Day!!! 🥳 The whole school had an amazing day getting active and having so much fun in stations led by 6th class. The girls and boys did a fantastic job in leading Sports Day and making sure that all enjoyed the day. Well done Rang 6 ☺️👏🏼 The children (and teachers) all got to enjoy an ice cream after a busy day. A big thank you to past pupil Sam O’ Farrell who also visited the school before Sports Day kicked off. He spoke with pupils about the importance of teamwork and perseverance in playing sports. We wish him the best of luck in his upcoming final.

Wednesday: The final day of Active Schools Week saw 1st – 6th class participating in mini World Cup soccer blitzes. All pupils had a great time playing in friendly games and mixing with children from other classes.

It was a super week for all & we’re already looking forward to next year! Thank you to the Parents Council for their support with different activities and a very happy summer holidays to all ☺️ The Active School Committee
