This week we held a ‘Bring your bike or scooter to school’ day and participated in some bike/scooter training and skills as part of our Green Schools Travel programme! Ellen O’Sullivan, the green school travel officer, visited us on Wednesday and Thursday 1st and 2nd June to facilitate these very enjoyable action packed days. It was fantastic to see over 60 scooters and over 85 bikes travelling up the hill to school. We hope it will encourage more children to walk, scoot or cycle safely to school in the future.
Junior and Senior Infants listened to a safety talk from Ellen about scooter and helmet safety. Then they practiced their scooter skills in the yard. They had great fun zooming up and down!

1st and 2nd Class carried out safety checks on their bikes at home and brought them to school on Thursday. There was great excitement challenging themselves to cycle up the hill to school! Ellen gave a very informative talk in the morning about bike safety, how to inflate tyres, how to wear helmets correctly and general cycling safety tips. The children then participated in lots of bike riding, games, challenges and fun activities!

And finally 3rd and 4th class hopped on their bikes having also carried out safety checks on their bikes at home, and they participated in lots of games and cycling challenges with Ellen and Monica. They also learnt lots from Ellen’s safety talk in the morning.
