Fun in Senior Infants!

We have had a busy and fun-filled first term in Senior Infants! Ms. O’ Connell is very proud of all the great work that all of the boys and girls have done so far this year.

We have great fun in Aistear each month where we enjoy learning through play. Our role-play area is a firm favourite where we love getting in character! We started with learning about ’The School’ but ‘The Witches’ Den’ for Halloween was definitely the most popular! Playing games such as Halloween bingo and food-printing with fruit to make some Halloween Art were very enjoyable too.

We love hands-on activities in Maths too and have especially enjoyed building, measuring and going on Maths trails.

In November, we enjoyed our lessons with our student teacher Ms. Meagher who taught us all about the importance of mindfulness and did lots of exciting experiments with us for Science week. She also taught us how to make clay pots in Art!

At the end of November we had a visit from Barbara Sullivan from ‘Heritage in Schools’. She helped us to explore biodiverity in our playground. We loved working together to look for signs of Winter around the school pitch. As part of SESE with Ms. O’ Connell, we also enjoyed working in pairs to make bird feeders and were amazed to discover the birds loved the food we had left out for them.

We were so excited to welcome an elf to our classroom at the start of December. We took a class vote for his name and decided on Snowy! Snowy has gotten up to all sorts of mischief in our classroom but has left us some important messages to remember during the exciting build up to Christmas. Ms. O’ Connell is very impressed with the children’s neat handwriting in their Santa letters and all the art work the boys and girls have created for Christmas!

Ms. O’ Connell wishes all the boys and girls in Senior Infants a very Merry Christmas with their families and looks forward to lots more adventures together in January!!
