Spring has sprung in 1st class!

We had a busy start to 2021 and despite doing our school work at home in January and February, we still managed to learn lots, work so hard and have so much fun. We all missed our friends in school at this time but we tried our best. Our parents and anybody who helped us while learning at home were fantastic as they too tried to juggle school work and endless other jobs. Well done everybody your great efforts didn’t go unnoticed! We enjoyed learning about Spring, the lifecycle of the frog, houses and homes years ago and reptiles. We created artwork with pieces of nature, became architects and drew up plans of our houses and even tried interior decorating to design our favourite room in the house in a shoebox! In Maths we learned about Time, money, capacity and tens and units. We had great fun measuring and messing with water at home! We read books and wrote lots and we created fantastic pet fact files!

In March we were absolutely delighted to return to school and meet all our classmates and teachers again! March certainly was a busy month and Spring most definitely had sprung! We drew beautiful pictures of daffodils and painted fabulous cherry blossom trees using the technique of pointilism.

On the 4th of March we celebrated world Book Day by reading lots of books and designing our own book covers!

In History we learned a lot about our families. We made our own family tree and drew a family portrait! We realised that no two families are the same and even though each family is different, they are all special and unique in their own way!

In Maths we are busy getting the hang of subtraction and tens and units. We had lots of fun making numbers using lollipop sticks and cubes.

We continued to do Literacy Lift Off reading lots of books in our groups and working hard at out writing too. As Ghaeilge we learned about Éadaí and we drew pictiúrí álainn and wrote about ourselves gléasta suas!

There were lots of occasions to celebrate in March. We made pretty vases of flowers with our handprints for our lovely Mammies for Mother’s Day 😊.

We celebrated St. Patrick’s Day by making lots of shamrocks, cards and leprechauns!

We learned about Naomh Pádraig in history too. Finally we began the Easter celebrations! We made easter chicks, decorated eggs and wrote excellent easter acrostic poems in pairs!

On the day of the Easter holidays we had a little party and enjoyed some Easter eggs and treats after all our hard work 😊 Happy Easter everyone and stay safe!
