Senior Infants were lucky enough to return from the Halloween break and be placed into the very capable hands of our student teacher, Ms. O’ Brien. Lessons covered during this time include 3-D Shape and the Number 7 (Maths), Éadaí as Gaeilge, working as an Archaeologist (History), Making Playdough and The Glass Frog (Science), The Northern Lights (Art), An Dreoilín in Music, How to Make Rice Krispie Buns in English (Procedural Writing), The Café in Aistear and some Parachute fun in P.E. Ms. O’ Brien also helped out hugely with our Maths Games and English Stations during the month of November. She was so kind and enthusiastic each day, and we wish her lots of luck in her future teaching career!

Science Week was a lot of fun!! We made it rain, saw some dancing raisins, created our very own snow, tested an egg to see if it was bouncy, watched a volcano explode, observed some magic milk and tried to walk on air!

Though we couldn’t perform a Christmas Play this year, we still tried our best to make December as magical, fun and festive a time in our Classroom as possible. We did this through Art (marshmallow igloos, winter tree scenes, penguins, elves, baubles, stockings, candy canes etc.), Poems (we learned LOTS of Christmas Poems this year, including “Twas the Night Before Christmas”, “5 Little Stockings”, “Reindeer Poop”, “The Present” and “An Fear Sneachta”), Stories (“The Little Reindeer”, “The Christmas Adventures of Archie” etc.)  and Music (the entire school gathered outside most days [distanced and in our pods] to sing some Christmas Carols. We also watched some Christmas Ads, made Christmas Cards, did a Christmas Countdown and had an Advent Calendar. Skittle also joined our Senior Infant Family for the month and got up to loads of mischief…

December saw us continue to work hard, and we looked at Topics like Length, Weight and Capacity in Maths, An Nollaig in Gaeilge, The Legend of the Giant’s Causeway and Scotland in SESE, along with lessons on The Polar Bear and The Penguin. We completed our second Reader, “What a Mess!”, and looked at the genre of Procedure in English. Learning how to wash a baby was great fun and I think we are all experts at this stage!!

Hopefully 2021 will enable us to have many more adventures, and more time to learn, play, chat and have fun in our classroom!
