We’ve been very busy in 1st class since Halloween! Here’s what we’ve been up to…
In Maths we were learning about length and we did lots of estimating and measuring both in the classroom and outside. We’re very lucky to have such a big yard to play in!
In November Winter crept in upon us and we learnt and recited winter poems such as Sir Winter, Jack Frost and The Snowman. In Science we learnt about Emperor penguins and we created beautiful penguin families under the northern lights sky using collage and pastels with Mrs Murray and we made a little colony of penguins out of wool. They’re very cute!
We listened to the Irish legend The Salmon of Knowledge in History and we acted out different scenes from the story in Drama. We each took on the roles of the different characters. We responded to the story in art with paintings of our favourite part!
During Science week this year we did lots of experiments. Our two favourites were creating dancing raisins in fizzy 7up (carbonisation) and colourful rainbows on paper towels (capillary action).
By the start of December it was beginning to look a lot like Christmas! We did lots of art work for the festive season including Christmas trees, reindeer and snowmen candle holders, nativity scenes.
In religion we listened to the story of Christmas when Baby Jesus was born. We enjoyed making our nativity scenes to remember the true meaning of Christmas. We visited our school crib and we each said a prayer.
We wrote about our hopes for 2021 on our candles of hope. Needless to say everyone’s main hope was that Covid 19 would disappear! Let’s hope it does!
When the day of the Christmas holidays finally arrived we left the uniforms at home and dressed up in our festive gear! 🌲We are delighted to have a little break after all our hard work and look forward to new beginnings and a more positive new year in 2021😊Happy Christmas everyone!
