Autumn in 2nd Class.

We settled with ease and very quickly into 2nd class after such a long break away from school. Everyone is so happy to be back at school once again meeting all of our friends, learning and having fun every day.  We have been busy with all the extra washing, sanitizing and keeping our distance from each other to keep each other safe.  We have all adapted so well to all our new hygiene routines in the classroom, well done everybody! Here is a snippet of what we’ve been up to.

We have been creating lots of art over the past two months and began by creating a class jigsaw. We designed our own special piece of the jigsaw fitting them all together to create a large class jigsaw, reminding us how well we all fit together in rang a do. Our self portraits turned out well and we had lots of fun sketching our faces.

We have had a busy few week learning all about Autumn and the seasonal changes it brings. We enjoyed our nature scavenger hunt identifying and finding all different sorts of leaves, nuts and fruits around the school. We painted autumn trees adding plenty of colours to brighten the dark mornings.

We have been listening to teacher reading us lots of Roald Dahl books. We looked closely at some of the weird and wonderful characters in his books and created Mr. Twit’s disgusting beard as well as the beautiful Roly Poly bird in Art.

The excitement was building as Halloween approached and things got very spooky in 2nd class. We put so much work into our writing creating witches disgusting spells, spooky stories and lots of descriptive writing about the Halloween characters. We thoroughly enjoyed learning our spooky poems in English and Irish. We had a spooky story writing competition which we put so much effort into. During art we created pumpkins, witches, ghosts and all kinds of spooky characters.  We painted silhouettes with all sorts of creatures in the night sky. All of this hard work was rewarded with a Halloween party dressed up in our scary costumes. Poor teacher had a very frightening 2nd class on that day! In fact, she’s still a bit afraid……………

Wishing everyone health and happiness in the coming months as we count down to …………. Christmas!!
