We learned about the country of Japan in 4th class during April and May. We learned about the physical country, landmarks and culture in Japan. The class also got to explore some of teacher’s Japanese items. We split our class into groups to research different topics such as Japanese clothing, Japan’s part in WWII and the 2011 tsunami. Each group had to research and collaborate to create a project booklet which we then used to teach the rest of the class.
The class created some beautiful Japanese artwork – we painted scenes of Mount Fuji, Japan’s famous volcano and koi-fish. We also made some origami pieces – this proved to be quite difficult and took a lot of practice!
As a final treat, we made some sushi in class. Some of us were even brave enough to taste some seaweed and rice rolls – and surprisingly some of the class found it quite tasty!
