We celebrated Engineer’s Week in 4th class. We completed lots of fun STEM and science activities based around the area of force. Firstly the class had to design boats that could float and hold the weight of an orange without capsizing.
We then had to plan and create bridges that would sustain the weight of many coins using only a sheet of paper and our book piles.
We created levers in our Wag the Dog experiment.
Our favourite task was the Egg Drop Challenge – in small groups we planned, designed and created a container / an apparatus that would protect an egg from breaking when dropped from a 2m height using straws, lollipop sticks, string and sellotape. Many of us succeeded but as you can see from the mess, some of us have had to rethink our designs!
