This month we learned about the Arctic Circle and Antarctica in 4th class. We focused on the life and adventures of Tom Crean, native animals to the polar lands and the Inuit people.
We learned to sew and created animal puppets during art! The class also worked in groups to research, create and present projects about the polar lands to the rest of the class.
Finally we carried out some science experiments. One tested what effect salt has on ice and why it has been used so much on the roads/paths over the winter. The other experiment known as ‘The Blubber Mitt’ was far more messy! It tested how effective blubber (fat) is in keeping polar mammals warm in the freezing temperatures and we found the results really interesting.
